David Gilmour - Yes, I Have Ghosts

During a late-night haze, a friend sent me a link to a new song (from last July) by rock legend David Gilmour, the guitarist for Pink Floyd, joining the ranks of a myriad of musicians, old and new, who have put out drastically stripped down performances this year due to the ongoing pandemic.
This particular song, "Yes, I Have Ghosts," is Gilmour's first in five years, and is a duet between Gilmour and his daughter Romany made as part of a promotion for the audiobook for A Theatre for Dreamers, a Sunday Times bestseller by Gilmour's wife Polly Samson. The arrangement simply consists of an acoustic guitar, piano, violin, and both Gilmours' voices -- seemingly a standard nowadays. Despite the cliche, it's still easy to imagine it appearing on a late-stage Pink Floyd record -- perhaps The Final Cut or The Division Bell -- maybe even with Roger Waters singing (as if that will ever happen nowadays). The video, filmed on the empty streets of the Greek island of Hydra, the setting of Samson's novel, certainly adds to the sense of otherworldliness you would come to expect from one of the driving forces behind Pink Floyd.
The initial plans to promote A Theatre for Dreamers in April fell through for obvious reasons, so the Gilmours threw their hat into the ever-expanding ring of live-streamed performances, punnily branding themselves as the "Von Trapped Family."
